India has become the FIRST country to receive over $100 billion in remittances

According to the World Migration Report 2024 by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), India witnessed a remarkable surge in remittances, reaching a staggering $111 billion in 2022. This surpasses all previous records and solidifies India's position as a global leader in remittance receipts.

The report underscores Southern Asia's dominance in attracting high remittance inflows, driven by a significant migrant worker population. India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh emerge as key players in this economic landscape, benefiting from substantial contributions from their diaspora communities abroad.

Remittances, defined as financial or in-kind transfers sent by migrants to their families or communities back home, serve as vital lifelines for millions of households in developing economies.
