France to welcome 30,000 students from India by 2030- President Macron

Last Friday, President Emmanuel Macron announced a significant initiative, expressing France's aim to host 30,000 Indian students in its universities by 2030. This ambitious venture is a pivotal step towards enhancing academic collaborations and fostering stronger ties between the two nations.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter) while participating in the 75th Republic Day celebrations in India as the chief guest, Macron outlined an ambitious venture aimed at strengthening France's ties with India, emphasizing India's role as a crucial partner in the Indo-Pacific region. This initiative, revealed following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to France in July 2023, underscores Macron's commitment to fortifying the relationship between the two nations.

He stressed the pursuit of excellence in studying French through initiatives like "French for All, French for a Better Future" in public schools. Macron highlighted France's 35 universities in the QS ranking and 15 in the Times Higher Education ranking, expressing the extensive collaboration potential between India and France.

The French embassy in India introduced measures, including a five-year short-stay Schengen visa, to enhance ties and attract more Indian students, aligning with the people-to-people aspect of the strategic partnership between the two nations.

Key Points Shared regarding Student visa program

President Macron has shared key points on X regarding the projected study visa program:

  • France is launching new pathways in order to learn French in Public Schools with the initiative “French for All, French for a Better Future’’.
  • Developing the network of alliance francaises, with new centres to learn French
  • Creating International Classes which will allow students who do not necessarily speak French to join French Universities
  • Last but not least, France will facilitate the visa process for any former Indian students who studied in France

Coming to France means looking for excellence

French Government have now 35 universities in the QS ranking, and about 15 in the Times higher education ranking.
