Express Entry draws for CEC and FSW to restart in near term, says Immigration Minister, Canada

The Canadian Immigration Minister, Sean Fraser spoke about current status as well as upcoming plans for Canadian immigration department, i.e. Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) in a recent interview. The minister spoke about various matters, including the PR application backlog, immigrants in que, resumption of draws for skilled worker, and already implemented procedures as well as upcoming changes, etc.

Express Entry CEC and FSW draws to resume in near term

Answering a question, the Immigration Minister, Sean Fraser said, “We don’t have specific announcement about the draw yet, but we can assure you that we are looking to resume the draws in near term on the Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Worker.

He emphasized on the need for continue welcoming the skilled professionals. The minister indicated that although at now the government is inviting immigrants considering the pandemic situation, however, the balance is shifting in next two years, as per the recently announced immigration levels plans. Moreover, in third year, the government is eying to invite most number of skilled workers.

As per the recently announced Canada Immigration Levels Plan (2022-2024), the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) targets to welcome 431,645 new permanent residents in 2022, 447,055 in 2023 and 451,000 in 2024. Hence, Canada will invite nearly 1.5 million new permanent residents by the end of 2024.

Steps being taken to clear backlog and improve immigration

Talking about improvement of the Canadian immigration system and backlog of applications, the minister mentioned below steps being taken or took by the Canadian government:

  • Increase the immigration levels to clear the inventory of PR application backlog
  • Put resources immediately to where you identify the bottle necks in the process
  • Economical and physical profile 85 Million dollars for application processing
  • Modernizing the immigration system.
  • PR Application tracker launched for family reunification

Answering a question about work permit holders, the immigration minister mentioned that the government is working to address the issue of the people whose work permit may expire soon. He assured that government is working upon the various TR to PR programs and facilitating pathways, so that such people can get the Permanent Residency (PR) in Canada.
