IRCC is likely to meet Federal High Skilled Target of 55,900 despite delay in Express Entry – FSW draws

As per Immigration levels plan of Canada, the IRCC (Immigration Refugees, and Citizenship Canada) will invite 55,900 Express Entry candidates under Federal High Skilled Category (i.e. FSW, CEC and FST category) to apply for Canadian PR (Permanent Resident) Visa in 2022.

However, due to delay in conducting the regular all-program draws for FSW and CEC category, the IRCC has only issued 9,220 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for Canadian PR visa until date. Despite this delay, the IRCC is likely to meet 2022 immigration levels. Find out more.

Federal High Skilled inventory status

The present-day inventory of Federal High Skilled (FHS) clients stands enough to fulfil the category's admissions aims for the year 2022. There are nearly 58,000 individuals in the FHS inventory with a prearranged admission target of 55,900. In addition, there are more than 21,000 individuals in the landing inventory with more than 16,000 admissions this year until date.

To make certain there is sufficient inventory to fulfil 2023 levels, it is anticipated that the Department would require starting issuing FHS invitations in the middle of July and September 2022. The suggested option is to stop invitations until June 30, 2022, and reexamine the timing for the start of FHS invitations as per the evolving situations (option 1). A pause on issuance of FHS invitations until June 2022 is to help the IRCC to carry on reducing the backlog of FHS applications.

EE draw bi-weekly Invitations likely to touch pre-pandemic level

Before the pandemic caused situation, the IRCC (Immigration Refugees, and Citizenship Canada) used to invite 3000-4000 candidates (even more at times) in every Express Entry draw. However, in view of the pandemic caused situation, the IRCC paused the FSW category draws and number of ITAs per draw, dropped to below 1,000. This happened, as there was huge application backlog at the end of IRCC.

However, now as the backlog is going to clear by the end of June this year, the IRCC will resume FSW draws from early July. This year, the IRCC need to issue over 40,000 more invitations (in second half of this year) to meet 2022 immigration target of 55,900, as until 25 May 2022 EE draw, only 9,220 express entry candidates have received the invitation.

This mean, from July onwards, the IRCC may invite 3,000-4,000 Express Entry candidates per EE draw, to meet this year’s target.
