The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has confirmed that it will accept a record number of applications for Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) in 2021. The exceptional PGP of Canada provides families with an opportunity to reunify and thrive in the maple leaf country.
The family reunification plays a substantial role in luring, retaining and assimilating immigrants who contribute to success of Canada.
Parent and Grandparent Program 2021
Continuing the excellent record and success of the PGP in last few years, Canadian Immigration Minister, Mr. Marco E. L. Mendicino, has announced on July 20, 2021 that the IRCC will invite a record number of individuals in 2021 to apply under Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP).
The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will accept up to 30,000 extra applications, giving highest ever number of Canadians citizens and permanent residents a chance to bring their loved ones to Canada.

Same Lottery System will choose the candidates
The IRCC shall use the same lottery (random selection) process as used in past years, and consequently, send invitations to prospective sponsors who have already shown intention to be a sponsor (through an interest to sponsor form submitted in 2020).
This will give additional people interested to sponsor under PGP the opportunity to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada. The ITAs (Invitations to Apply) will be sent over the progression of 2 weeks, beginning September 20, 2021 week.
The people who receive the ITA under the process can use IRCC’s new Permanent Resident Digital Intake tool, electronically submit the applications. This shows how IRCC continues to modernize its immigration system, to ease and accelerate the application process.
Facilitative income requirement in view of the pandemic
Considering the fact that several families are going through financial difficulties due to the pandemic, the IRCC shall continue to instrument a more facilitative income requirement to make certain that more people can apply.
For the 2020 tax year, the income requirement will continue to be the minimum essential income, rather than the minimum necessary income plus 30%. Moreover, the regular Employment Insurance benefits and temporary COVID-19 benefits, i.e. Canada Emergency Response Benefit, can be included towards the sponsor’s income.
This step from IRCC will make certain that candidates do not suffer because of the lost income during the pandemic.
