Canada has updated Processing Times Tool to check application-processing time more accurately

The Canadian government updated the processing times tool on March 31, 2022 to more accurately, check the processing time of your Canada immigration application. Prior to this, the system used to show the service standards, i.e. the IRCC’s (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) commitment about processing your application under normal circumstances. Moreover, the service standards are not updated regularly.

IRCC’s updated Processing Times Tool

Now, with the updated tool, most Permanent Resident (PR) Visa and citizenship services show processing times, which is being updated every week, as  per the data from the last 6 months. These updates provide you with the more accurate and up-to-date information that replicates

• Volumes of applications being processed and
• Any changes to our ability to process applications

Processing times for temporary residence applications already updated weekly, based on the data from the past 8 or 16 weeks.

What is the difference between processing times and service standards?

• The processing times tells you that in the past, how long it took to process most complete applications. The IRCC updates it weekly.
• On the other hand, the Service standards are IRCC’s commitments to process your application in a definite amount of time under usual circumstances. The immigration department do not update the same regularly. Moreover, not all programs have service standards.

How are processing times calculated?

The processing times of IRCC are historical, which means they are measured based on how long it took to process 80% of applications in the past! Your processing time starts the day IRCC get your complete application and ends when it make a decision on your application.

Ø  If you apply by mail

The processing time begin when your complete application reaches IRCC’s mail room.

Ø  If you apply online or in person

The processing time begins when you submit your application.
