Canada is Celebrating the month of January as the ‘Tamil Heritage Month’

On January 1, 2022, Tamils across Canada- the maple leaf country, mark the beginning of ‘Tamil Heritage Month’. Canada is home to one of the biggest Tamil Diasporas in the world, and in the month of January, Canadian government is honouring the several great contributions that Tamil Canadians have made and continue to make to the country.

On his occasion, Canada’s Minister of Housing, Diversity, and Inclusion, Ahmed Hussen has issued a statement encouraging all nationals to learn more about the numerous accomplishments of Tamil Canadians, while sharing and recollecting the stories of courage and resilience from the community.

Canada celebrates Rich Tamil language and culture

As per 2016 census, Canada has Tamil population of 1, 40,720, which is 0.40% of countries total population. Tamil Canadians are continuing to enhance the society here, right from politics, to health, sports, business and other fields.

As per Minister Hussen, “Tamil Heritage Month is also a great opportunity for us to recognize and celebrate one of our greatest strengths as a country: our diversity. Though this year’s celebrations will once again be different, I know that it will be a month filled with pride and joy”.
