Canada Celebrates National Francophone Immigration Week

Canada marks National Francophone Immigration Week to celebrate the key contributions of French-speaking immigrants to Francophone communities.

Hon. Sean Fraser stated, “As the new Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, it’s important for me to mark National Francophone Immigration Week because I am proud to celebrate the contributions of French-speaking newcomers to communities across Canada, and how Francophone newcomers help communities outside Quebec thrive.”

Canada to invite more French-speaking newcomers by 2023

As announced earlier in October, Canada aims to welcome 4.4 per cent of French-speaking newcomers outside of Quebec by the end of 2023.

Since French immigration is considered essential for maintaining Canada’s bilingual nature, the IRCC has introduced a few new immigration options to recruit French speakers in Canada. These parallel immigration pathways for French-speaking candidates for permanent residency will also help Canada align with in-demand occupations in its labour market.

Canada Immigration Opportunities for French-Speakers

Immigrate via Express Entry - French-speaking Express Entry candidates now get 25 additional points for their French language ability, which was earlier up only 15 points. At the same time, bilingual candidates get 50 points, in comparison to 30 earlier.

French-speaking EE candidates can boost their chances of receiving an ITA for Canadian PR with such additional points.

Immigrate via PNP - Many Canadian provinces run provincial nominee programs to invite French-speaking skilled immigrants. Most of these Canadian provinces invite candidates via the Express Entry pool. While for others, candidates must submit an Expression of Interest to get invited.

For instance, Ontario operates a stream for EE candidates with English and French language ability. Nova Scotia also invites French-speaking applicants via EE pool to apply for nomination.
