On October 26, 2021, the Liberal government of Canada appointed a new Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada minister. Hon. Sean Fraser replaced former Immigration Minister, Mr Marco Mendicino, who held the role since November 2019.
Hon. Sean Fraser is a Nova Scotian Member of Parliament and holds a law degree, a master's degree in Public International Law and Bachelor's degree in science.

After the re-election, followed by his appointment, Fraser has indicated his priorities. He will focus on "job creation and economic development, a healthy environment, social justice, and will ensure that Canada does right by the world."
As a new Immigration Minister, he will be at the forefront in securing a new NAFTA deal with Mexico and the US. NAFTA, i.e., the North American Free Trade Agreement, proffer unique work opportunities in Canada for the US and Mexico citizens.
Followed by Fraser's appointment, we expect that there could be a divergence from the typical Express Entry draw scenario. All the Federal Skilled Workers are anxiously waiting for the next all-program invitations round, and they might get a chance.
