Canada Announces to resume the Direct Flights to and from India w.e.f. 27 September

The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced to lift the ban on direct flights to India. In the latest press release, Canadian immigration department has announced that it is resuming the direct flights to and from India  with effect from September 27, 2021. It means that the existing flight ban will continue until 26 September only and after that, all direct commercial and private passenger flights to Canada from India will continue as normal.

Flights from India to Canada resuming with following additional measures

Once the ban on direct flights expires, eligible travellers will be able to board direct flights from India to Canada with the following additional measures:  

• Travellers require having a proof of a negative COVID-19 molecular test from the approved Genestrings Laboratory at the Delhi airport taken within 18 hours of the scheduled departure of their direct flight to Canada.
• Before boarding the flight, air operators will be checking the travellers’ test results to make sure that they are eligible to come to Canada, and that fully vaccinated travellers have uploaded their information into the ArriveCAN mobile app or website. The people who are unable to meet these criteria will not be allowed to board the flight.

Three direct flights from India arriving in Canada as first step

On September 22, 2021, three direct flights from India will arrive in Canada as a first step. Moreover, all passengers on these flights will be tested for COVID-19 upon arrival to make certain that the new measures are working.

Once the direct flights resumes, travellers who are eligible to enter Canada who depart India for Canada through an indirect route will continue to be required to acquire, a genuine negative COVID-19 molecular test within 72 hours of departure, from a third country – other than India – before continuing their journey to Canada.If you qualify for the fully vaccinated traveller exemption, you are exempt from quarantine and Day-8 testing requirement.
