Canada announces key measures to reduce processing time & Modernize Immigration

The government of Canada every year welcomes a significant number of new immigrants in the country. The point-based and organized immigration system of Canada is widely popular across the world. However, in view of the recent global pandemic the backlog of applications has been a measure challenge for the immigration department of the maple leaf country.

Now, in the latest media release, Canadian immigration minister, Sean Fraser has announced some key measures to reduce the application processing time and modernize Canada’s immigration to benefit the people looking to come to Canada.

Measures taken by Canadian government for Canada immigration

Among the several measures announced by the immigration minster the stand out measure was the target of finalizing 1,47,000 permanent residency application in the first quarter, i.e. double the applications completed in first quarter of last year. Find below the list of measures announced by the minister under two different sections:

  • Measures for reducing the processing time

     

    • Making efforts for reducing processing time with allocation of 85 million dollar which were included in recent fiscal and economic update
    • Work permit processing time is expected to return to the service standards this year
    • The department processed the record number of study permit applications in 2021. Moreover, in 2022, the IRCC is taking additional measures to restore the processing time of study permits back to service standards
    • putting additional resources to reduce processing time of temporary visitors to Canada
    • Extra resources to permanent residency to eliminating the inventory (application backlog) and managing the curb renewals as they come in
    • The IRCC has a target of finalizing 1,47,000 permanent residency application in the first quarter of 2022
    • Regarding family reunification the service standard processing time of 12 months have been achieved
    • The IRCC has implemented advance analytics to clear the backlog of temporary visa, i.e. visitor visa applications.

 

  • Measures to Modernize Canada immigration system
    • Transforming Canada’s immigration in to a modern and digital platform
    • Expanding the permanent residence application online portal, so that more number of applicants can submit their application electronically.
    • For family reunification, the IRCC will be launching the permanent residence case tracker in February for spousal/common law partner applications
    • For those PR applicants, who are in Canada, the government has developed a portal so that they can finalize their PR process and receive the permanent residency cards, without any in person interaction.
    • Taking steps to make the online available PR status information more accurate and updated.

In the latest media release, the Immigration Minister mentioned that Canada invited the newcomers even during the pandemic and post pandemic also; the government will continue to invite new immigrants to with many different skills and talents to meet the skill shortage. Moreover, the government hope that the new measures will support this cause to a great extent.

Though, the minister didn’t confirmed any date for resumption of the FSW (Federal Skilled Worker) draws of  Express Entry System, however, he assured that the IRCC is working hard to resume the same as early as possible and the new measures announced are a step towards the same only.
