British Council will not deliver the IELTS Tests in India from 25th July- IDP to deliver all tests solely

In an important announcement, the British Council has confirmed that it will not deliver the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Tests in India from July 25, 2021.

As of now, both British Council and IDP are two official bodies that conduct the IELTS Test in 78 locations across India, however, from 25th July, IDP will be the sole distributor of the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) testing in India.

What is happening?

The IDP has entered into an agreement with the British Council and according to this agreement, the IELTS tests in India will be delivered by IDP only from 25 July 2021. 

There will be no changes to the test content, structure, or security and marking standards. 

There will be branding changesonlyand you will have to use the IDP online registration systemto book your test, however, the test itself remains unchanged.

IDP and British Council’s teams will be here to make certain a smooth transition, hence, the test takers can focus on improving their English and preparing themselves to achieve their best score on test day.

What will change, if you have already booked or booking for IELTS exam?

Find below the possible impact/scenario in case of IELTS paper or computer test:

  • IELTS on paper

If you have an IELTS on paper test before 11 July 2021, there will be no change to your test. You will take your test with the British Council as per the schedule. 

If you have booked your paper-based test with the British Council after 11 July, your test should still take place on the day planned, although you may be asked to move to an IDP test location nearby instead. IDP teams will be in touch with you by 7 July to share new login details for the IDP system. 

  • IELTS on computer

If you have an IELTS on computer test before 25 July 2021, there will be no impact to your test. You will take your test with the British Council as scheduled. 

For computer-delivered tests after 25 July, your test should still occur on the day you booked although you may be asked to move to an IDP test location nearby. IDP teams will be in touch with you by 7 July to share new login details for the IDP system.
