Australian Visa Fees Update: New Rates Effective July 1, 2025

The Department of Home Affairs has confirmed that significant changes to Australia's Visa Application Charges (VACs) will take effect from July 1, 2025. These adjustments will see an increase across a broad spectrum of visa subclasses, including popular categories such as Partner, Student, Visitor, and Skilled Migration visas.

Find below the updated fee for key General Skilled Migration (GSM) visas categories applicable w.e.f. 1st July 2025:

However, some visa categories, most notably the Student Visa (subclass 500), will experience a more substantial hike. Here are the updated fees for other key visa categories.

The Department of Home Affairs states that these annual adjustments are part of the government's strategy to ensure the sustainability and integrity of the visa program and to cover the costs associated with processing applications and enhancing the immigration framework.

Key Considerations for Prospective Applicants

These forthcoming fee increases are expected to impact the financial planning of prospective visa applicants. Individuals and businesses preparing to lodge visa applications are strongly advised to consider submitting their applications before July 1, 2025, to benefit from the current, lower fees. The fee updates are often crucial for visa applicants, i.e.:

  • Couples applying for Partner visas, given the substantial fee involved.
  • Students planning to pursue studies in Australia, who will face a notable increase in the Student Visa fee.
  • Skilled workers and employers utilizing the 482, 186, and 494 visa programs.
  • Visitors who are applying for visas while already onshore in Australia or planning extended stays.

The Department of Home Affairs advises all applicants to review the updated fee schedule carefully and budget accordingly for applications lodged on or after the effective date.
