Australia- Tasmanian Skilled Migration Program (2021-22) to open for New Applications from 4 August 2021

Tasmania State of Australia is opening its Skilled Migration Program 2021-22 for new applications with effect from August 4, 2021 (Wednesday, 12:00 pm, local time). The State of Tasmania, every year receive the annual nomination quota from the Department of Home Affairs, Australia and accordingly it issue nominations for the relevant state nominated visas.

Tasmania Skilled Migration Program update 2021-22

Starting from 4th August, Tasmania will start accepting the nomination applications from the interested applicants. Find below the Tasmania’s state nomination quota for the program year 2021-2022:

  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa Subclass 491– 2200 places
  • Skilled Nominated Visa Subclass 190 – 1100 places

Out of the above-mentioned numbers, nearly 500 places are likely to be used for applications carried over from the 2020-21 program year.

Key Changes to nomination requirements:

The state has made some minor changes to nomination requirements for the 2021-22 program year. Find below a summary and explanation of these changes:

Tasmanian Graduates (Category 1)

  • Employment not compulsory for this category

The employment or obtaining a job is not a minimum requirement for the Tasmanian Graduate nomination category, however proof of employment or business operation will be taken into consideration in the state’s assessment where:

  • the employer is settled and has been functioning in Tasmania for at least 12 months
  • the employment has been for more than three months in duration
  • the business owned by the applicant has been operating for minimum six months, or
  • where applicants have been employed in the dairy, meat, accommodation, logistics or farming industry for at least the previous 6 months prior to lodging their application for nomination, they should have completed relevant industry training of at least Cert III (or equivalent training provided by industry peak bodies),

Working in Tasmania (category 2)

  • 3 months minimum TSOL employment

Applicants, who have a skills assessment for an occupation on the TSOL (Tasmanian Skilled Occupation List), will be eligible for subclass 491 nomination after working in a correlated position for at least3 months.

  • Acknowledgement of sponsor employer for current subclass 482 holders

To help show a genuine desire to settle in the state of Tasmania, candidates who presentlypossesses a Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482) and who have worked less than twelve months with their Tasmanian-based sponsoring employer require providing a letter of support from their present sponsoring employer.

  • Extra guidance regarding “a well-established business operating in Tasmania”

A well-settled business actively functioning in Tasmania would be usually be expected to have:

  • permanent business signage
  • an active/ongoing online presence, advertising and marketing
  • a Tasmanian address as a registered business location
  • a local landline contact number
  • an ongoing office space (not a residential address) that is not ‘casual’ or ‘virtual’ (including corporate/co-shared offices), and
  • Permanent representation of employees at the stated business location.
  • Semi-skilled employment – showing development prospects through industry-based training

A period of industry-based training while working with their employer may show career development opportunities for lower skilled employment or standby for existing qualifications not available in larger population centres.
