Australia is reopening the borders for all Fully Vaccinated Travelers from 21 Feb

Australia to reopen its borders to all fully vaccinated visa holders, tourists, business travelers, and other visitors from 21 February 2022. Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced this in the latest Media release on Monday.

However, visa holders who are not fully vaccinated will still need a valid travel exemption to enter Australia, and will be subject to state and territory quarantine requirements. As per the government, these changes will make certain that the it protects the health of the countrymen, while continuing to secure economic recovery of the country. 

Australia opening borders

The decision to open border for all fully vaccinated travelers has come after two years from the date when borders were fist closed by Australia in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. With improving health situation in the country, comprising a recent 23 ?crease in hospitalizations due to the pandemic, Australia’s National Security Committee of Cabinet agreed that Australia is ready to further progress the stepwise reopening of border. 

Since the Government started Australia’s staged international border reopening on 1 November 2021, almost 580,000 arrivals observed, who come to Australia including to unify with loved ones, work or study.

Who will be considered Fully vaccinated?

You will be considered fully vaccinated for travel to and from Australia if you have completed a course of a vaccine approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). This includes mixed doses. Currently recognized vaccines and dosages accepted for travel are:

  • Two doses at least 14 days apart of:
    • AstraZeneca Vaxzevria
    • AstraZeneca Covishield
    • Pfizer/Biontech Comirnaty
    • Moderna Spikevax or Takeda
    • Sinovac Coronavac
    • Bharat Biotech Covaxin
    • Sinopharm BBIBP-CorV (for people under 60 years of age on arrival in Australia)
    • Gamaleya Research Institute Sputnik V
    • Novavax/Biocelect Nuvaxovid.
  • Or one dose of:
    • Johnson & Johnson/ Janssen-Cilag COVID Vaccine.

Travelers with satisfactory proof  that they cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons, and children under 12 can access the same travel arrangement as fully vaccinated travelers.
