Australia has Included Pharmacists Occupation to the PMSOL

Australia has included a new occupation in the Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL). On July 27, 2021, Alex Hawke - the Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs has announced the inclusion of pharmacists occupation on the PMSOL.

This occupation list is prepared based on expert advice from the National Skills Commission and consultation with Commonwealth departments.

Pharmacists added to PMSOL

Now, the Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL) comprises44 occupations, which fill critical skills needs to support Australia’s economic recovery from the global pandemic. The Department of Home Affairs, Australia will give priority to the Employer sponsored nomination and visa applications with an occupation on the PMSOL.

All other skilled occupation lists (SOLs) will remain active; however, the DHA will give priority to PMSOL occupations. Find below the newly included occupations (with ANZSCO codes):

  • Hospital Pharmacist (251511)
  • Retail Pharmacist (251513)
  • Industrial Pharmacist (251512)

The PMSOL is temporary and priority occupations may change once Australia recovers from the pandemic. The Government shall continue to observe the impact of COVID-19 on the Australian labour market and evaluate Australia’s skills requirements as they grow and new sources of data arise.

Priority processing of nomination and visa applications for PMSOL occupations is applicable to following employer sponsored visa subclasses:

  • Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (subclass 482)
  • Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 494)
  • Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) visa (subclass 186)
  • Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) visa (subclass 187)
