Who is an entrepreneur?

An entrepreneur is an individual, who establishes a business with a goal to make profit.  An entrepreneur is normally seen as a moderniser, a source of new concepts, goods, services, and business/or procedures.They are the key contributor to Alberta’s economy.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for this particular stream, applicants needs to meet the following criteria:

  • Education- The applicant must have done minimum2 years of full-time education, resulting in a degree or diploma from an Alberta Advanced Education publicly funded post-secondary institution. Must be eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit.
  • Work Permit- Have a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) valid for minimum two years at the time of your EOI submission.
  • Language-Have a minimum language proficiency (in English/French), i.e. CLB7 in English proficiency
  • Business Establishment-Need to set up a new business or buy an existing business in Alberta with a minimum 34% ownership. The proposed business type must not be on the list of ineligible businesses.
  • Work Experience- Need to have at least 6 months of full-time work experience that can be a combination of actively running or owning the business or equivalencies. Equivalencies comprise experience with a business incubator or business accelerator, or completion of entrepreneurship program courses.

Accepted post-secondary institution entrepreneur programs and suggestions for work experience equivalencies may comprise the following:
