Victoria State Nomination update for Program year 2020-21

abc The state of Victoria, Australia has announced to open the 2020-21 Victorian skilled visa nomination program (for subclass 190 and 491) on September 8, 2020. As per the Victorian Government, it will also make change in the process for applicant's selection for Victoria Visa nomination.

The new process will emphasize on Talent and Contribution to the Economic recovery of the state of Victoria, along with the submitted EOI (Expression of Interest) of the applicant.

This changes in the state nomination program aims to tackle and respond to challenges posed by the Covid-19, with an emphasis on the economic recovery of the state of Victoria.

Interim Visa nomination places available until 5th October 2020

The state has a limited number of visa nomination places available until October 5, 2020, i.e. just before the date, when Federal Budget is delivered, i.e. 6 October 2020. Hence, to start with, Victoria will run a smaller and more targeted interim skilled visa nomination program (subclass 190 and 491), until 5 October 2020.

For this limited period, the state will only choose those candidates to apply for Victorian visa nomination, whose, ROI (Registration of Interest) shows that they are working in the health or medical research and contributing to economic recovery and/or health response of Victoria.

Registration of Interest for Victorian State Visa Nomination

To be selected for Victorian visa nomination, you need to submit a ROI (Registration of Interest) for Victorian State Visa Nomination (for Subclass 190/491). The candidates, who register their interest, are likely to be selected to apply for Victorian visa nomination, if they meet other basic criteria as well.

Before submitting the ROI for Victoria state visa nomination, you need to create or update your valid Expression of Interest (EOI) on the online SkillSelect System of Department of Home Affairs, Australia.

You need to submit your Registration of Interest by 5pm AEST, 21 September 2020.

Eligibility Criteria for interim nomination

To be able to submit your Registration of Interest (ROI) for Victorian visa nomination (subclass 190 and 491) you need to:
  • be presently living in Victoria, and
  • be presently working in Victoria (minimum 6 months), and
  • work in a highly skilled occupation in health or medical research, which contribute to economic recovery and/or health response of Victoria, Australia

The state will then select the most suitable candidates to apply for Victorian visa nomination.
