Canada follows a point based system of immigration, which is also knowns as Express entry System. Launched by IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada), Express Entry completed its 3rd anniversary in January 2018. Although, it is the best and fastest way to obtain permanent residency in Canada, however, its point system, i.e. Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) often disappoint the applicants, with low immigration points or CRS points in express entry system.

Criteria to receive ITA (Invitation to Apply) for Canada PR

As per express entry process, the IRCC invites the applicants, who have higher CRS points, i.e. close to 444 points (as per recent EE draws). Hence, the applicants with low CRS score, don’t get the invitation from IRCC to apply Canadian PR. So how exactly the applicants with relatively low point score do to become eligible for Canada PR invitation?

Well, in 2018, the applicants have got new hope as multiple Provincial Nominee Program (PNPs) opening their Express Entry aligned stream for the candidates registered in express entry system.

PNP- Express Entry pathway for Canada PR invitation

Almost every province of Canada has a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) through which it selects the suitable immigrants under skilled workers and business category, etc. The Provincial Nominee Programs often have some key streams, i.e. occupation in demand sub-category, express entry subcategory, graduate and postgraduate sub-category, etc. under which, they invite the nomination application from the applicants. However, Express Entry aligned stream or subcategory is largely popular sub-category of every PNP. Let’s find more about this key PNP stream.

Express Entry Sub-category of a PNP

Express Entry aligned subcategory or stream of a Provincial Nominee Program designed to select the suitable skilled workers from the express entry stream. Hence, an applicant need to have his/her profile registered to become eligible to apply for this stream. The provinces, which comprise this stream, get the access to view and notify the suitable candidates to apply in the PNP under the EE stream.

If an applicant applies in an Express Entry Stream and get selected for provincial nomination, he/she becomes eligible to receive 600 additional CRS points in express entry system. The 600 additional points ensure the ITA (invitation to apply) for such applicant in the very next draw of federal express entry system.

Several PNPs opened their Express Entry aligned stream in 2018

The IRCC has increased the annual immigration target for Provincial Nominee programs of the year 2018, hence, fair share of the increased allocation will be for the most popular stream of a PNP, i.e. express entry stream. This is the reason that several PNPs launched their Express Entry aligned stream in the month of January 2018. Here are some key PNPs, which opened their Express Entry aligned stream in January 2018, i.e.

  • Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)
  • British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP)
  • Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP)
  • Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP)
  • New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP)

So, if you are a Canada immigration and PR visa aspirant with low CRS score, you have every reason to be positive as you have the PNP option in your favour this year.
