UK Launches Point based immigration System from Start of 2021 With the start of year 2021, many procedures are going to change, particularly for the immigration aspirants to UK. The United Kingdom have opened the applications for the individuals applying for visa to come to live and work in the United Kingdom w.e.f. January 1, 2021.

Moreover, with the start of the New Year, the European Union (EU) citizens will be treated the same way as those from the rest of the world. Earlier, the individuals from EU countries had the automatic right to work in the UK, however, now they will have to go through the same point system like the citizens of the rest of the countries across the globe.

New Point-based Immigration System of UK

Now, the people who want to work in UK will have to qualify for the 70 points for the relevant visa. The 40 points will be awarded to the candidates having a job offer from an approved employer for a skilled job. The English language proficiency will earn 10 more points for applicants. The remaining 20 points an applicant can earn if he/she is due to be paid minimum 25,600 URO a year.

Additional points can be earned for having better qualifications (i.e. 10 points for a relevant PhD, or 20 points for a PhD in science, technology, engineering or math). In addition, if a candidate has a job offer in which the UK has a shortage (20 points), even if it does not pay as much money.

Some jobs in health and education sector may still earn you 20 points even if the salary is less than 25,600 URO for the same. The candidate needs to be paid minimum 20,480 URO, and in line with set amounts for particular jobs in the four nations of the United Kingdom.

How do you apply to work?

One can start the application for the UK visa online, however, a few applicant may need to visit a visa application centre in order to demonstrate their identity and show essential documents. These documents may include a certificate of sponsorship from a proposed UK employer, and proof of English proficiency level.

What is the cost to apply?

The application fee for the visa shall depend on the fact as to how many years the job seeker plans to work in United Kingdom and whether his/her job is on a list of shortage occupations or skills, i.e. vets and web designers.

If the skills are not on shortage list then the standard fee will be between 610 URO and 1,408 URO per person.

The applicants will also have to pay a health surcharge of 624 URO per person/year when they apply. This money will be refunded if they do not get a visa. Moreover, the applicants require shoring that they have the means (i.e. the funds) to support themselves in the United Kingdom, which usually involves having minimum 1,270 URO available.

Study in UK

The international students can come to study in UK, and there is no limit in this regard at now. The new student visa application system allows the candidates to apply 6 months before they are due to begin a course if they are applying from outside the UK.

The UK government will launch a new graduate visa in summer 2021, to allow students who have completed a degree to live in the UK for 2 years. This will increase to 3 years for those who have done a PhD.
