The key modifications made to LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) requirement for Canadian employers will take effect from April 29, 2016. The Employers using TFWP (Temporary Foreign Workers Program) have been informed to take note of the changes with regard to job offers for the streams of high and low wage positions. The modifications have been made in the two streams this month only.
The TFWP allows Foreign Workers to work in Canada after LMIA approval
The Temporary Foreign Workers Program, allows the Canadian employers to hire the overseas workers to meet the skill shortage in the labour market in Canada. However, they also need to make sure that priority is given to the locals, i.e. Canadian citizens or permanent residents for any open position.
Changes to High and Low wage Stream Jobs will take effect from April 29, 2016
The medium hourly wages as per Province/Territory have been updated with new wage requirements, which will take effect from April 29, 2016. The annual unemployment rate based on the economic region has also been updated, with the rates which already have implemented w.e.f. April 1st, 2016.
The Canadian employers need to refer the new hourly wages by territory or province to determine which TFWP requirement they need to meet. The offered wages, along with the position and location will determine whether the employers require applying for the LMIA under the stream of low wage or high wage position.
