Canadian Communities Waiting for Rural & Northern Immigration Pilot, may have to wait a little more

The communities which were eagerly waiting for the start of Rural & Northern Immigration Pilot(RNIP) in their region, may have to wait for at least a month, as the launch date of New Year's Day has been postponed.

As per the planned schedule, the RNIP was to start for the 5 of total 11 communities participating in the pilot, on January 1, 2019. Now, it will take at least a month before these communities start accepting applications under RNIP.

Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP)

The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) has been established to help rural and remote Canadian towns lure overseas workers to their communities. It is meant to support these communities counter labour market shortages due to decreasing birth rates, ageing population, and the migration of youth to other parts of Canada. The new pilot program was scheduled on New Year's Day for the following five communities:
  • North Bay, Ontario
  • Timmins, Ontario
  • Claresholm, Alberta
  • Vernon, British Columbia
  • West Kootenay, British Columbia
The communities, i.e. Sudbury, Ontario, for which, the pilot was supposed to begin on 1st November, not accepting the applications as of now. Moreover, Thunder Bay, which announced the date of accepting applications on January 2, 2020, still not accepting the same. As of now, the pilot has been launched in the following communities:
  • Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario
  • Brandon, Manitoba
  • Altona/Rhineland, Manitoba
The pilot for most other participating communities set to launch this year periodically.
