It is good news for the sponsorship applicants of the Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP), who applied for sponsorship in January 2017, but didn’t receive invite from IRCC. The IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) may invite more candidates from the received applications for PGP in 2017. One of the key IRCC officials has made the revelation in this regard in the recent Canadian Bar Association conference.

Possibility of another PGP Intake this year

There is a good chance that IRCC arrange another draw, to randomly select more applicants from the pool of candidates, who applied for PGP sponsorship earlier this year. The key reason behind this is the number of received applications from the selected applicants in the last PGP draw. Hence, the IRCC may invite more PGP applicants this year from the pool to submit complete application and subsequently, invite their parents and grandparents to Canada under PGP.

Fewer Number of applications received vide last PGP intake

The first draw of PGP held in January 2017 with some new changes in application process. The people, who were willing to invite their parents and grandparents to Canada, were asked by the IRCC to fill a short online form (i.e. Interest to Sponsor Form) to show their interest in the PGP sponsorship. The application intake limit for the PGP was kept to 10,000, which was double the number of applicants invited last year. The IRCC received about 95,000 applications between the intake open period, which ended on February 2, 2017.

IRCC selected 10,000 applications randomly from the total 95,000 Interest to sponsor forms submitted. On April 10, 2017, IRCC asked selected applicants to submit the complete sponsorship applications within 90 days. However, till first week of June, 2017 IRCC has received just 700 complete applications for PGP, i.e. 9500 applications are still not received from the selected applicants. Now, as per IRCC official, if we do not receive the complete applications (i.e. as per PGP quota of 10,000 applications per year) within the specified period, we will invite more applicants from the pool of received applications.

Hence, the people who were not invited last time around by IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) have a good chance to be invited this time around for submitting complete sponsor hip application. The IRCC may review the total number of received applications in August or September this year and accordingly they will decide to invite more applicants.

Earlier, IRCC had announced that the candidate, who didn’t receive invite this time around, will have to apply again in the year 2018 PGP application intake to sponsor their parents and grandparents for immigration to Canada. However, with under the current circumstances, IRCC may invite more candidates from the existing list of PGP applicants.

The Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP) are the most popular program and a part of family reunification policy of Canadian government. The liberal government of Canada has been quite lenient on family reunification in last couple of years, and has taken the steps such as improving the application process and doubling the application intake for PGP from 5, 000 a year to 10,000 per year.
