By Rajneesh Kumar Posted 15, Oct 2020

abc The Parents and Grandparents Program of Canada is reopening from today, i.e. 13th October 2020. The Canadian citizens and permanent residents, who wish to sponsor their parents and grandparents to get permanent residence in Canada can fill and submit the online Interest to sponsor form. The form will be available until 3rd November 2020.

Process after Submission of Interest to sponsor form

Once all entries are submitted (until 3rd November), the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will conduct a lottery and subsequently, invite the selected candidates to submit the complete application to sponsor their parents for Canadian Permanent residency. The IRCC will accept 10,000 applications for PGP this year.

Advantages of PGP

The PGP allows Canadians to reunite with their elderly family members. The Parents and Grandparents allocate complete benefits of Permanent Residency to the sponsored parents, i.e. live and work in Canada, get access to healthcare and apply for the citizenship.

This is an all-win situation as Canadian society also benefits from the presence of parents and grandparents. They aged parents and grandparents contribute to the household income, offer childcare that allows parents to work long hours, these all things enhance the buying power of the families, which in turn help boost the economy.

Three Steps of PGP

The PGP process can be divided in to three steps, i.e.

Step 1: Interested sponsor need to submit an interest to sponsor form between October 13 and November 3, 2020

Step 2: After 3rd November, the IRCC will assess submitted forms and eliminate any duplicates. Then, IRCC will randomly choose and invite potential sponsors to apply to sponsor their parents and grandparents. This year IRCC shall invite potential sponsors to apply in one round of invitations.

Step 3: Once you are invited to apply, you must submit your application package by the mentioned date in your invitation.

The process is a bit different for the Canadians living in Quebec province.
