The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) shall reopen the Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP) of Canada on January 2, 2018. The PGP is a popular immigration program that allows the Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents for immigration to Canada. The PGP not only allows sponsors to bring parents in Canada, but also allocates them permanent resident status.

Parent and Grandparent Program with new changes

The IRCC implemented new changes in the popular Parent and Grandparent Program in beginning of this year. The idea was to make the process of sponsoring parents and grandparents to Canada easier and transparent. As per the changes applied in 2017, the Canadians interested in sponsoring their Parents and Grandparents to Canada need to first show interest for sponsoring, through an online ‘Interest to Sponsor’ form.

Once all the interested sponsored submitted interest to sponsor form, IRCC will then choose the potential sponsors randomly, and subsequently, invite them to submit complete application to sponsor their parents and grandparents to Canada.
