The most popular Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP) of Canada is open for new applications w.e.f. January 3, 2017 at noon Eastern Standard Time. So, if you are interested in sponsoring your parents or grandparents to Canada, all you need to do is fill a short online form to show your intent or interest in the program. However, it is essential to remind that only Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their parents and grandparents to get permanent residency in Canada through PGP.

The PGP Application process is changed in 2017

Before you take the first step, its good to take note of key changes made in the PGP application processing in 2017. The PGP for 2017 is open from January 3 to February 2, 2017. So, if you are interested in program as a sponsor of PGP Visa, you have the period of one month to register in the program, as the program will close for new applications on February 2, 2017 at noon Eastern Standard Time.

After closing the PGP for new applications this year, the Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will choose the 10,000 entries randomly from the people who are willing to sponsor their parents and grandparents to Canada. If your application (short online form to show interest) is chosen, you will get an invite from IRCC to submit complete application within 90 days from receipt of ITA (invitation to apply). In case you didnt receive the invite from IRCC this time around, you may try for next year intake.

The PGP 2017 will give fair chance to everyone

Earlier Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP) used to be based on First come, first served basis. However, a few applicants raised concerns over it saying that it doesnt give fair chance to everyone. Hence, in 2017, the IRCC has implemented a process that will give equal chance to all the applicants. The IRCC will first collect the online applications or forms (starting January 3 to February 2, 2017) from all interested sponsors of PGP program, and subsequently, select the 10,000 entries randomly. Now each interested applicant will get 30 days time to register for the PGP and with the new lottery system of selection, everyone will have the chance to be picked for further PGP process.
