Posted - 24, Mar 2018

Ontario province of Canada has introduced a new 'Completeness Check' for accepting the applications under Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). The OINP is largely popular Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) of Canada, which invite the skilled workers from overseas to apply for provincial nomination and subsequently, issue the nominations to the selected candidates to apply permanent residency in Canada.

Completeness verification is essential as per the Ontario Immigration Act

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) operates based on the Ontario Immigration Act, 2015 (Act) and its guidelines. Now, it is noteworthy that section 5 of Ontario Regulation 421/17 (Approvals under the OINP and Other Matters) made under the Act, instructs that all applications be reviewed for completeness.

An applicant need to complete the application as per the program parameters applicable at the time of submitting the paid application. Now a completeness check will be commenced to ensure that an applicant has submitted all essential documents and information to show that you can fulfil the OINP eligibility requirements.

OINP Completeness Check applicable

In case your application is complete, Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) will issue a letter acknowledging its completeness and showing that it has been forwarded for formal assessment in order to confirm that you meet all OINP eligibility requirements.

However, in case the application of an applicant is incomplete, OINP will issue a letter providing the applicant 14 calendar days to submit documentation or provide information that may have been ignored or forgotten at the time of submitting the application to Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program.

Prohibited use of Additional time

The use of additional time is prohibited for fulfilling a requirement that should have been met before the applicant submitted the application, i.e. one cannot use the provision of additional time to take up the language proficiency test. However, the additional time can be used to submit a language proficiency test, which was valid at the date of your application submission.

No extension beyond 14 days

In case you are failed to provide all of the required information or documentation within 14 calendar days, Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) will issue a notification to you that your application is incomplete asking for the application. In such case, your application fee will also be refunded. The OINP will not permit the extensions beyond the 14 calendar days. Hence, once your application has been accepted as complete, the OINP may still contact you asking whether it require additional information to support the formal assessment of the application of applicant.
