New Express Entry Draw for FSW Category - Will IRCC Consider Opening it now

By Rajneesh Kumar Posted 04, Jun 2020

visas default image The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is opening targeted express entry draws for the last couple of months. Most of the draws opened recently were either for the provincial nominee class or for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Hence, the applicants registered under the FSW (Federal Skilled Worker) category are eagerly waiting for the FSW category regular draw (i.e. not CEC or PNP specific draw) of the Express Entry system. So that, the direct candidates, i.e. without provincial nomination or Canadian experience can also get the ITA (Invitation to Apply).

Let us find out how likely it is to see the FSW regular draw happening in the next few weeks.

Express Entry FSW Category Regular draw

The Federal Skilled Worker is one of the three main categories of the Federal point-based Express Entry immigration System of Canada, i.e.
  • Federal skilled Worker (FSW)
  • Federal Skilled Trades (FST)
  • Canadian experience class (CEC)
The FSW is largely popular among the aspirants of skilled migration to Canada. Every year, tens of thousands of people register under this category to apply for and receive the invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residency from IRCC.

What is the possibility of the FSW Regular draw in the next few weeks?

As of now, the Canadian government has taken some measures to contain the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak and temporary travel restriction is one of them. However, once the situation seems under control, things will be back to normal very fast.

The current containment measures announced by the government are expiring on 30th June 2020. The way things are improving regarding the pandemic situation, it seems that the temporary restrictions will end soon and we may see the regular draw of EE System taking place.

Canada striking balance between the containment measures and Issuing of invitations

Despite taking the containment measures for the Coronavirus pandemic, the Canadian government has not compromised with its immigration target. It is consistent with its periodic draws and inviting the applicants as well through these draws regularly.

Moreover, at no point, the federal or provincial government stopped accepting the new applications for the Express Entry system or provincial nominee programs.

This is the reason that the government is still positive about its annual immigration target of 341,000 for 2020 as well as the Express Entry target of 91,800 for the same year.
