Latest Changes and Updates in Australia's State Occupation Lists

Australia every year release Skilled Occupation Lists for various visa categories. The Australian visa aspirants all over the world find and nominate an occupation from the relevant occupation lists in order to apply the visa category associated with it. Different Australian states and territories also release their respective occupation lists, under which, they invite the suitable skilled workers and professionals.

These state occupation lists are valid to apply State Nominated visas, i.e. Subclass 190 Visa and Subclass 489 visa. Let's find out the latest changes various Australian states have made in their respective occupation lists.

New South Wales

New South Wales State of Australia invited 256 candidates for Subclass 190 visa, whereas for subclass 489 visa, it invited a total of 95 candidates in the month of April. As per the official government site of NSW, no changes have been made in the NSW occupation list as of now.


Below two occupations have been added in the Queensland state occupation list vide the updates in the list announced in the month of May 2018.

  • 254424 - Registered Nurse (Surgical)
  • 272413 - Translator


The state of Victoria invited 278 candidates for subclass 190 visa in the month of April. However, the state announced that it is not accepting new applications for state nominated visas, i.e. Subclass 190 and 489 visa w.e.f. May 15, 2018 until further announcement in this regard. All applications received before May 15, 2018 will be processed, however, the delay may occur in the processing.

South Australia

Following occupations added in the SA State Occupations list as part of the changes occurred in the month of May 2018

  • 321212 - Diesel Motor Mechanics
  • 272413 - Translator
  • 262113 - Systems Administrator
  • 313113 - Web Administrator


Tasmania State in Australia removed below two occupations from Tasmanian State occupation list

  • 251511 - Hospital Pharmacist
  • 251513 - Retail Pharmacist

Northern Territory (NT)

NT issued 14 invites for subclass 190 visa, and for subclass 489 it issued a total of 489 visa invites. NT Occupation list remains unchanged.

Australian Capital Territory (ACT)

Australian Capital Territory (ACT) invited a total of 100 invitations for 190 visas and the ACT list remains unchanged.

Western Australia

Western Australia occupation list also remains unchanged.
