Canadian government has confirmed to clear about 80 percent backlog of its spousal sponsorship applications. The minister for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Ahmed Hussen, recently announced this update about the Spousal sponsorship program. Spousal Sponsorship program allows the Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their spouses or partners living outside Canada to come and live in Canada on a permanent basis.

Canadian Government Cleared 80 percent Spousal sponsorship backlog

The immigration minister said that the government has fulfilled its commitment made almost a year back that they will reduce the backlog by 80 percent within a period of 12 months. As per the Mr. Hussen, the IRCC had 75,000 applications pending in December 2016, i.e. a year ago, out of which, the decision have been taken on eighty percent of the applications in last one year. Now the backlog has been reduced to just 15,000 applications.

Speaking about the facts, Mr. Ahmed Hussen said, "Moving to a new country can be a difficult process, especially when it comes to spouses and partners who are separated by time and distance," Hussen said. "Canadians with a partner or spouse who is abroad shouldn't have to wait for years to have them immigrate to Canada. Nor should those in the country be left uncertain as to whether they will be allowed to stay in Canada." As per him, the applications which are left with the concerned department are being worked upon diligently.
