Immigration South Australia is Giving Preference to Medical and Health Professionals

visas default image The Immigration South Australia is imposing some changes in the policy to prioritise the processing as well as the nomination of the Medical and health professionals. This is being seen as the step to support the state government in the containment of the Covid-19 pandemic. South Australia nominates the skilled and talented people from overseas, for key visas, i.e. Subclass 190 and 491 visa.

Reduced Work Experience requirement for the Medical and health professionals (International Graduates)

The Medical and health professionals in the occupation list, who are graduated from a South Australia and presently staying and working in the state of South Australia in their nominated or closely related occupation (minimum 40 hours per fortnight), are exempted from the condition of 3 month work experience. The candidates availing the exemption of work experience requirement, will only be eligible for nomination for Subclass 491 visa (Provisional).

Medical and health professionals (working in SA)

Medical and health professionals, presently living and working in South Australia in their nominated or closely related occupation (minimum 20 hours per week) exempted from the requirement of work experience. Such applicants availing the work experience exemption are only eligible for a Subclass 491 visa nomination.

Registered Nurses

Also, the work experience requirement of 5 year has been removed for Registered Nurses working in the state of South Australia, in their occupation or closely related occupation.

Points Requirement

Minimum of 65 points are required for medical and health professionals, (including state-nomination points, and competent English), who are who are presenting living in South Australia and working in their nominated or closely related occupation.

Subclass 190 Visa nomination eligibility for the medical and health professionals

Medical and health professionals (with occupation in the given occupation list) presently working in South Australia, for the last 12 months in their nominated or closely related occupation (minimum 20 hours per week) or the last 6 months in their nominated or closely related occupation (minimum 20 hours per week) in a country region of South Australia) are eligible for a Subclass 190 visa (permanent).

Priority processing for medical and health professionals

The State nomination visa processing time varies based on the volume of applications received. However, the applications from medical and health professionals will be given preference.

Subclass 190 visa subclass nomination requirement changes

At now only those applicants are eligible to apply for the Subclass 190 visa nomination, who are presently working in the SA for last twelve months in their nominated or closely related occupation (minimum 20 hours per week) or last 6 months in their nominated or closely related occupation (minimum 20 hours per week) in a country region (of South Australia). The applicants who don't meet these conditions are only eligible to apply for 491 visa nomination.

Subclass 190 State nomination quota

The below occupations have been reached their quota for Subclass 190 visa, hence, applicants with the below occupation can now apply for Subclass 491 visa only.

  • 222312 Financial Investment Manager
  • 224711 Management Consultant
The changes mentioned above are applicable to state nomination applications submitted to Immigration SA on or after 12pm on 27 March 2020.
