Hurry! 1st February is the deadline to submit ‘Interest to Sponsor’ Form for Parents & Grandparents Program

The last date to submit Interest to Sponsor form for Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) is 1st February, 2018. The PGP allows the eligible Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents for Canadian permanent residency. Submission of ‘Interest to Sponsor’ form is the first step to apply as sponsor in Parents and Grandparents Program of Canada.

‘Interest to Sponsor’ Form Submission

The ‘Interest to Sponsor’ form is the initial step to apply as sponsor in PGP. As of now, the IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) has announced the deadline of 1st February to submit this form. Once the deadline is over, the IRCC shall start selecting the applicants randomly from the received ITS forms. These randomly selected applicants will be invited by IRCC to submit the complete application for Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP).

The IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) has plans to accept 10,000 fresh sponsorship applications in the year 2018. Canadian citizens and permanent residents above 18 years of age are eligible to sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residency in Canada.

Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) Criteria

The applicants of sponsorship via PGP also need to fulfil the income requirement as prescribed by IRCC. The PGP sponsors must provide proof that they meet the minimum income requires for each of the last three taxation years. Let’s take a look at the income requirement parameters in last three years.

Other Eligibility requirements

An applicants of sponsorship under PGP must:

  • Be minimum 18 years or above
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
  • Be Meeting the specified income requirements
  • Willing to support that person and their dependants financially
  • Submitting notices of assessment issued by the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) in support of their sponsorship.
  • Interested sponsorship applicant must also show they have met the minimum necessary income level for 3 consecutive years. The income of spouse or partner can be included
  • Both, i.e. the sponsor and the sponsored relative must sign a sponsorship agreement that commits the sponsor to provide financial support for the sponsored person for up to 20 years.

The sponsors, who receive invitation from IRCC require submitting the inclusive application for PGP within 90 days of the receipt invitation from IRCC. The applicants who are not selected this time around, shall also receive the notification from IRCC. Such applicants can apply to be a sponsor in PGP next year.
