Good News for the STEM Students on F1 Visa in US, as OPT is likely to get extended up to 3 years

This news may please the STEM Students studying in the US on F-1 Visa, as the OPT (Optional Practical Training) for them is likely to get extended up to 3 years. The DHS (Department of Homeland Security) has sent the revised rule in this regard for assessment and then for publication in the Federal Register.

The Revised Rule is submitted for review to publish the same in Federal Register
The revised rule will allow the students on F-1 visas enrolled in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects to get more working experience in USA, under OPT program. If it gets successfully approved and implemented, the F-1 Visa students will get the 2 additional years in US for Optional Practical Training, which is allowed for 1 year at now. However, for this to get published in Federal Register, it has to pass all the legal checks involved prior to that.

The STEM OPT
The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) are the subjects of study in which students in US get enrolled for study. As per the STEM OPT program, the students on F-1 Visa in US, pursuing their education in STEM subjects are given an extension on their visa up to 17 months for OPT (Optional Practical Training) with recognized US Employers.
