Fully Vaccinated Australians will soon be able to travel without needing an exemption

Australian government has announced that the fully vaccinated Australians will soon be eligible for international travel without needing an exemption.Hence, the Australian citizens or permanent residents 12 years and older, who have received both doses of a recognised vaccine will be eligible to travel without seeking an exemption.

Travelers update for fully vaccinated Australians

The eligibility for international travel without needing an exemption may start sometime next month, i.e. in November, however, there will be more information provided soon regarding the same.The children under 12 years and those who are unable to get vaccinated for medical reasons, will also be able to travel abroad without an exemption.

Australian citizens and permanent residents not fulfilling eligibility criteria must continue to follow the current border processes when leaving Australia or coming to Australia.

Coming back to Australia

Fully vaccinated Australian citizens and permanent residents with a vaccine recognized by Australian Government, or under the age of 12 years, may be eligible for reduced quarantine arrangements while coming back to Australia. Such travellers will need to show the vaccination status at check-in when travelling to Australia.

Approved vaccines in Australia

There are two types of approved vaccines:

  • messenger RNA (mRNA) – Pfizer and Moderna
  • Vector – 

The Therapeutic Goods Association (TGA) is also evaluating a third type of vaccine – a protein vaccine called Novavax

Quarantine

For determining, and managing, reduced quarantine arrangements for vaccinated Australians and permanent residents,States and Territories are responsible.This may include home quarantine for a reduced period. You require checking with the State or Territory that you are returning to for their quarantine arrangements.
