The Canadian government has launched the new Global Talent Stream (GTS), which includes fast track processing time for work permits in Canada under Temporary foreign Worker Program. As of June 12, 2017, work permit processing time will be as short as two weeks for highly skilled occupations.
Key Objectives of Global Talent Stream
The two main categories of the Global Talent stream will focus on the selected high demand occupations and high growth organizations. The GTS aims at preferring the quick processing of the work permit applications from foreign skilled workers applying for high demand occupations in Canada.
The idea is the help the fast growing industries, especially the IT sector of Canada, which facing the skill shortage of highly skilled and talented workers, and hence, need to rapidly hire the overseas talent for specific positions to survive in the global competition.
Rapid Application processing time under GTS
The GTS aims at the processing time of 10 business days for work permit applications along with LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) for those applicants the employers of whom are authorized to hire foreign workers through GTS. The LMIA is an approval document issued by IRCC to the employers in Canada, which ensures that no Canadian was overlooked or verifies the fact that no local employee was available for the position for which, a worker from overseas is being hired. Once the LMIA is issued, the candidate can apply for Canadian work permit.
The ESDC (Employment and Social Development Canada) is administering the Global Talent Stream (GTS), which in the beginning will continue for 24 months. As per the government if we support the industries and organizations grow and flourish, they will in turn create further jobs for Canadians. And GTS is one such step to help and support industries and companies in Canada to develop and thrive.
Main Categories of GTS
The Global Talent Stream (GTS) has two key categories, i.e.It is being considered that the organizations under both the categories will not only create new jobs for Canadians soon, but also will help the growth and development of Canadian economy in long term. Moreover, the talented overseas workers coming through GTS will also play a key role in training and skill development of the Canadian workers.
