Year 2017 was outstanding for Canadian immigration. Needless to mention that it was a busy year for the IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) due to incredible Express Entry draws throughout the year resulting in massive immigration influx. Express Entry is the fastest and most popular immigration system of Canada and hence, the whole Canadian immigration revolves around it.
Express Entry System was launched in January 2015 by IRCC (then CIC) with the purpose selecting skilled and talented workers to meet the demands of Canadian labour market and also to make the permanent residency process of Canada faster and better.
However, in its initial years, express entry faced criticism as well for not being flexible as less number of applicants were able to get the Permanent Residency in Canada in first two years. However, in 2017, express entry side-lined all the arguments about its success and launched massive draw to invite record number of immigrants in the year.
Express Entry Performance in 2017
Year 2017 was exceptional for express entry in view of massive draws, record fall in CRS score requirement and of course due to the total immigration in the year. Let’s take a look at the key highlights of the Canada immigration and express entry this year.
Record Number of ITAs issued in 2017
In 2017, IRCC issued a record number of Canada PR Invitations, i.e. 86043 ITAs. This number broke all records of total invitations in a year since the existence of federal express entry system. It is 177% higher compared to total number of invitations issued by IRCC in 2015 (31063 Invitations issued), while the number is 155% higher compared to the total invites in the year prior to this, i.e. 2016 (33782 invitations issued).
|No. of Invitations||31063||86043||177%|
|No. of Invitations||33782||86043||155%|
Record fall in CRS score requirement
Express Entry saw record fall in the CRS score requirement of cut of marks in the year 2017. Many EE draw in 2017 saw record fall in the CRS score. In fact several times in 2017 record created for the minimum CRS score requirement ever from IRCC. The lowest CRS score requirement in the year was 413 CRS points on May 31, 2017. Though qualifying marks went down to 199 points as well, but that draw was meant for FSTP category and not for FSWP (Federal Skilled Worker Program).
Trend in 2017 for Number of Invitations
The IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) also maintained the trend for the Number of invitation (per EE draw) for Canada PR throughout the year. In the first half of 2017, IRCC maintained the number of ITAs between 3500-4000. However, in the second half of the year, it reduced the number of ITAs per express entry draw between 2500-3000.
Multiyear Immigration Plan of Canada
Canada released its Multiyear Immigration Plan 2018-2020 in November 2017. As per the plan, Canadian government is going to increase the annual immigration significantly year on year basis. It will invite nearly one million immigrants as permanent residents in next three years. In 2018, Canada will invite 310,000 people as permanent residents, which is incredible number.
