Canada Admitted 341,000 Permanent Residents in 2019- Annual Report on Immigration

abc As per 2020 Annual Report submitted in Parliament on Immigration, for the period ending December 31, 2019, Canada admitted more than one million newcomers in the year 2019. This includes over 341,000 permanent residents, more than 402,000 study permits and 404,000 temporary work permits.

The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has recently announced its massive plans for the next three years as well. Let us find out more details about the 2019 annual report.

More than one million newcomers welcomed last year

As discussed already, Canada welcomed over one million new immigrants in the country last year, as per 2020 Annual Report submitted in Parliament on Immigration. Let us now take a look at the key categories, under which the new immigrants arrived in Canada last year:

  • Canada issued total 5,774,342 travel documents to visitors, workers and students.
  • Total 341,180 permanent residents welcomed by Canada.
  • Nearly 58 percent of permanent residents admitted under the economic category.
  • Government issued total 404,369 temporary work permits under the temporary foreign worker & international mobility programs.
  • Canada welcomed 8,500 French-speaking permanent residents outside Quebec with additional support for francophone communities across the maple leaf country
  • Total 74,586 people converted from temporary to permanent residents.
  • Permanent and non-permanent immigration accounted for more than 80 percent of Canada's population growth.
  • The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) created, applied, and expanded 10 different programs and initiatives related to GBA+.
  • Total 30,087 refugee resettled the highest number of any state all over the world.
