Canada has issued about 24,000 visas through Global Talent Stream in last two years

Canadian government has granted close to 24,000 visas in last two years under the Global Talent Stream that has been designed by the government to invite foreign skilled workers as part of its Global Skills Strategy. The Global Talent Stream (GTS) facilitates the employers in Canada in getting the easy access to temporary overseas workers, which possesses experience in 13 occupations under STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) category.

Global Talent Stream of Canada

The Global Talent Stream mainly focuses on the occupations, such as, Software Engineers, computer programmers, designers, Computer Engineers, web designers and developers.In a statement issued about GSS of Canada, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Ahmed Hussen, said, "As Canada's technology sector has historically struggled to attract the talent it needs to scale up, this is precisely the type of talent our Government had in mind when it first launched the [Global Skills Strategy],"

The ICTC (Information and Communication Technology Council) of Canada has predicted 216,000 job vacancies in ICT (Information Communication and Technology)sector of the maple leaf country by 2021. Canadian government also made an announcement couple of months back that it is planning to make Global Talent Stream permanent. This declaration was welcomed by many experts and entities including Canadian Innovators.

GTS Benefits to Canadian employers

The Global Talent Stream was designed to meet the demand of the labour market in Canada which was not being fulfilled by the available workers in the country. The GTS allows the Canadian employers to provide facilitated LMIA, waiving the key requirements to show that the employer first attempted to hire the Canadians for the vacancy. It also expedites the Labour Market Impact Assessment procedure.

As per Mr. Ahmed Hussen, "While Canadian workers are among the world's most highly educated and skilled, for Canadian firms to remain globally competitive, they must also be able to attract the best minds and talent from other countries," it reads, noting that more than 1,100 Canadian employers have used the Global Talent Stream since its creation in 2017.

Around 25 per cent of those recruited through the Global Talent Stream are coming in from the United States and the majority are citizens of India,

Around 16,000 family members accompanied those recruited through the program and benefited from access to work and study permits, he further added.
