Australian government is updating the Citizenship Test with effect from November 15, 2020. The new changes in the test will focus on the Australian values. Alan Tudge- the acting Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs has confirmed that the is going to be updated for the first time in over a decade to include a dedicated section on Australian values.

Last year, 204,000 people became Australian citizens, and 2500 more joined them on Australia Citizenship Day (17th September) in 30 different ceremonies. Despite the disruption caused by the COVID-19, since 31 March 2020, over 85,000 people from every state and territory have become citizens of Australia in online ceremonies. The testing has also resumed all over Australia, except Victoria. Moreover, with effect from 30 October 2020, most new visa and citizenship candidates required affirming the updated Australian Values Statement (AVS). The updated AVS will reflect the shared values of Australian society much better, comprising the rule of law, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of association and equality of opportunity for all Australians.
