Australia has revised the Credit Card Surcharge on Visa Payments w.e.f. 1st July 2020

With the start of new program year, everyone was expecting some key changes in Australia immigration programs, visa categories, occupations lists, and visa fees, etc.

 

Although, the Department of Home Affairs, Australia has not announced any change in visa fee until date, however, it has confirmed the increase in Credit card surcharge on the visa payments, with effect from July 1, 2020.

 

New Credit Card surcharge is applicable from 1st July

 

The surcharge applies when you pay the visa application charges, nomination or sponsorship fees through credit card or by PayPal, etc.

 

The updated surcharge rates from 1st July 2020 are as follows:

  • American Express - "1.40%"
  • Diners Club International - "1.99%"
  • JCB - "1.40%"
  • Mastercard* - "1.40%"
  • PayPal - "1.01%"
  • Union Pay - "1.90%"
  • Visa* - "1.40%"

* The surcharge will also be applicable to Debit Visa cards and Debit Mastercards while making payments.

 

The applicants were expecting the revision of visa application fee as well, as it often takes place from the start of new program year, i.e. 1st July every year. However, no visa fee change has been announced by the government until date.

The federal budget of Australia for the year 2020-2021 has delayed due to Covid-19 pandemic. It will now be presented in the parliament on October 6, 2020. The delay in federal budget can also be the reason for delay in the visa fee update.

 

Skilled Migration Updates for federal and state nomination programs

 

The federal and state governments of Australia release the program updates at the start of new program year, i.e. from July month. The official website of the Australia immigration department has announced that there would be an outage on some of our online systems between 7pm (AEST) Tuesday 30 June and 9am (AEST) Wednesday 1 July 2020. Hence, it is evident that the government is making some changes. As a result, few services were not available during the period mentioned above.
