It's a great news for the people looking to apply for parent visa in Australia. Australian government has announced a new Parent Visa-Subclass 870 for sponsored parents. The applications to sponsor a parent for a Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa will be open from April 17, 2019.
The government will assess the sponsorship applications received from April 17 onwards. Once the application has been approved, the sponsored parents can apply for Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa. The Visa applications are likely to get accepted from July 1, 2019. The visa application must be submitted within six month of sponsorship approval, however, it cannot be lodged without the approval for sponsorship.
Subclass 870 Sponsored Parent Visa offers a new pathway to the parents to reunify with their children and grandchildren living in Australia. To apply for this new visa, a parent must be the biological, adoptive, or step-parent of the sponsor. Also the sponsor of this visa, needs to be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.
Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa has been designed and launched to cater to the concerns of the applicants regarding the limited number of Parent places in Australia's migration program as well as lengthy waiting periods of the available visa categories.
In each program year, up to 15,000 Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visas can be granted, i.e. from 1 July to 30 June (next year). If the cap or ceiling limit is reached in a program year only, in this case, no further visas will be granted until the next program year starts on 1st July.
The new Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa allows parents to stay in Australia temporarily for a period of up to 5 years at a time. However, the parent need to be outside Australia for minimum 90 days to be able to apply for a further Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa.
A parent can hold visas up to a total stay in Australia of 10 years, showing that the visa is a temporary in nature and does not lead to permanent residence.
After an eligible parent has been in Australia on Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visas for the total 10 year period (maximum period), in that case, the parent must either leave Australia or apply for another visa that allows them to remain in Australia.
