Changes in Australia's Immigration Point system

The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) Australia has applied some key changes to its point based immigration system with effect from November 16, 2019. The list of these changes are as follows:

  • 10 points for having a skilled spouse or de facto partner
  • 15 Points for applicants nominated by a State or Territory government or sponsored by a family member residing in regional Australia
  • 10 points-for having certain STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) qualifications
  • 10 points for applicants who do not have a spouse or de facto partner
  • 5 Points-for applicants with a spouse or de facto partner who has competent English

Australia Introduced New Skilled Work Regional Visas

Australia has started two new skilled work visa categories from 16th November 2019, i.e. Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) and Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa Subclass 494.The new regional visas have replaced two of the old visa categories. Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 494) Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme visa (subclass 187) - Direct Entry stream
