The details of the new immigration program planned for Atlantic Provinces have finally revealed by the government. About 2,000 applicants are expected to apply for permanent residency via latest Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program in 2017. The program was first announced officially in July last year.

Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program

Newly introduced Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program is considered as a key component of Atlantic Growth Strategy. Now the government has revealed the complete details of this program. The pilot program will be launched for 3 years. It will include all key Atlantic provinces, i.e. Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick. Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program will officially begin accepting application from March, 2017.

The primary purpose this pilot program is to enhance the immigration as well as settlement procedure for the new immigrants coming to the region. It will ensure that the skilled migrants landing in Atlantic Provinces through this pilot program, have an employment offer from an approved employer along with a proper settlement plan to establish themselves along with their families (in case applicable) in the region.

Key Categories of Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program

The key categories of the pilot program are as follows:
  • Atlantic High-Skilled Program (AHSP):
The Atlantic High-Skilled Program (AHSP) is meant for the applicants with a qualifying employment offer for 12 months, i.e. contract for full-time job as per National Occupational Classification (NOC) level 0, A, or B.
  • Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program (AISP)
The Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program (AISP) is meant for the applicants with a qualifying employment offer of indeterminate period for full-time job offer as per National Occupational Classification (NOC) level 0, A, B, or C.

The Atlantic International Graduate Program (AIGP) is meant for foreign graduates of post-secondary education programs of minimum period of 2 years, undertaken at a publicly-funded educational institution in the Atlantic region. A qualifying employment offer is also required from such graduates.

Moreover, the employer in the region, who wishes to hire candidates through the program, must be reviewed by the respective provinces in advance.

Canadian Provinces are expected to accept significant number of immigrants in 2017
