The immigration process can be confusing especially, if you are new to key immigration terminologies or abbreviations, etc. You may get stuck in the middle of your immigration processor visa application, if you are not aware of crucial immigration terms.

We are providing here the meaning and explanations of few Canada immigration terms, which are used frequently during the Canadian immigration and permanent residency process.

• IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada)

The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada or IRCC is the department of Canadian government, which deals with matters related to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. The popular Express Entry online point based immigration system of Canada was launched by IRCC in 2015. The IRCC also, coordinate with provinces and allocate annual nomination quota to them.

• CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System)

The Comprehensive Ranking System is the point based immigration system designed by IRCC to assess the skilled workers applying Canadian Permanent Residency (PR) visa through Federal Express Entry Immigration System.

• FSW (Federal Skilled Worker)

The Federal Skilled Worker Program is one of the three categories of Federal Express Entry System, under which skilled workers from overseas register to apply Canadian Permanent residency invitation from IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada).To qualify under this category of Express Entry an applicant needs to score minimum 67 points based on age, education, work experience, etc. factors.

• ITA (Invitation to Apply)

The IRCC opens an Express Entry draw (usually every fortnight) to select the candidates with high CRS score. The candidates who meet or exceed the announced cut off marks for the draw, receive Invitation to Apply for Canada PR from IRCC. You need to submit Canada PR application within 60 days of receiving the ITA.

• PNP (Provincial Nominee Program)

Almost every Canadian province has a separate immigration program, which is known as a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). These provincial nominee programs invite the skilled and talented people from overseas to apply in the relevant immigration streams of these PNPs.

If any applicant apply in a PNP stream and remain successful, he/she gets a provincial nomination for Canadian permanents residency from that particular province, which helps an applicant to get Canada PR invitation or ITA to apply Canada PR from IRCC.

• NOC (National Occupational Classification).

The National Occupational Classification (NOC) list is the systematic arrangement that categorizes the skilled jobs in Canada in Skill type 0, A, B. Under this arrangement, an occupation is given a separate NOC code depending on its job responsibilities, etc.

• CEC (Canadian Experience Class)

The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is one of the three main categories of Federal Express Entry System. This category is meant for the individuals, who already have gained work experience in Canada.

• LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment)

The LMIA is a document required by an employer in Canada, if it is hiring a person from overseas. The positive LMIA means that there was no Canadian available to take up the job for which an employer has hired a person from outside Canada.

• ICCRC (Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council)

The Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council is the regulatory authority, which regulates or controls the Immigration consultants providing support and assistance to Canada immigration applicants. You must hire an immigration consultant associated with ICCRC to offer immigration or visa process assistance.
