What is AINP?

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) is the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) of Alberta province in Canada. It operates in coordination with the federal government of Canada and invite the eligible foreign skilled workers to apply for provincial nomination.

Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) Rule changes 2018

In October last year, Alberta Government announced to make key changes in its streams w.e.f. January 2, 2018. It was said that the provincial government will simplify the process and reduce the wait time.  The AINP will also reduce the total number of AINP streams and will introduce the few new streams on January, 2018, i.e.

  • New Alberta Opportunity Stream and
  • Self-Employed Farmer Stream.

The Alberta Opportunity Stream shall replace the existing Employer-Driven Stream and Strategic Recruitment Stream.

Introduction of AINP- Express Entry stream

The other key proposed change is the introduction of Alberta Express Entry stream, which was expected to be operational from January 2018, however it wasn’t to be. The new Express Entry stream will allow Alberta to nominate a limited number of suitable applicants from the Government of Canada’s Express Entry system. As of now the changes have not been made by the Alberta government, however, we may soon see the AINP changes taking place in 2018.

Eligibility requirements to apply AINP Skilled Worker Category

The Skilled Worker Category is most popular AINP category among applicants. However to apply, as an applicant, you need to fulfil below requirements:

  • Clearly mentioned in the application that you are able to and willing to live in Alberta on a permanent basis
  • Have relevant education, training, past work experience, etc. along with any sort of Alberta licensing required for the position and also to meet AINP parameters.
  • If you are already working in Alberta, need to show a copy of your valid work permit
  • Provide evidence of your legal status in your home country, only if you are not presently working in Alberta (living outside Canada).
  • Fulfil the additional parameters, if your occupation is in Early childhood educators and child care staff

A. Strategic Recruitment Stream:

You can apply for this stream directly under the given below pathways:

  • Compulsory and Optional Trades Category : You can apply under this category provided you are temporary overseas worker with authorized trade certificate in a essential or optional trade in Alberta authorized by the AAIT (Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training).
  • Engineering Occupation Category: You can apply under this stream provided you are a temporary overseas worker and have got the work experience in Alberta, in an eligible engineering occupation. 
  • Post Graduate Worker Category: You may apply under this stream provided you have Post-Graduation Work Permit, are presently employed in Alberta, and have got a degree from an authorized post-secondary educational institution in Alberta.

B. Employer-Driven Stream

  • Skilled Worker Category

  • International Graduate Category

You can apply under this category provided you have recently got a degree from an authorized post-secondary institution in Canada, possess a Post-Graduation Work Permit, and have obtained a fulltime (permanent) job by an employer in Alberta in an eligible occupation.

  • Semi-Skilled Worker Category

You can become eligible for the nomination under this stream provided you are a temporary overseas worker and have obtained a fulltime (permanent) job by an employer in Alberta in an eligible semi-skilled occupation.

C. Self-Employed Farmer Stream

You can apply under this category provided you have the financial assets and farm management experience to buy and set up a farm in Alberta.
