The government is likely to introduce a new temporary sponsored parent visa possibly in the first half of the New Year 2019. This new visa will allow the parents of migrants to stay in Australia for up to 5 years. The details about this visa were revealed first in June 2016, however, the implementation of it got delayed and now it will possibly be launched in 2019. The parents of migrants will now be able to select between a 3-year visa that comes at a cost of $5,000 and a 5-year visa with a $10,000 fee.
Sponsored family visas- New outline to be introduced
The Migration Amendments (Family Violence and Other Measures) Bill 2016 has been passed by the Federal Parliament with Government’s amendments. It will introduce a new basis for sponsored family visas, i.e. the two-step application process including an assessment of the sponsors, and once accepted, only a visa application can be submitted. The idea behind this new structure is specifically meant for protection of vulnerable family members, specially, the children and married partners from their violent sponsors.
